All About Our Story
Our story begins back in the 1980s, when Frank and Maria opened a small neighborhood grocery store called Shop and Go Market. What started as a corner store quickly became a local favourite. Maria’s famous hot table was filled with homemade Italian take-away meals that people still fondly remember today. Many customers still tell me how good it was a testament to her cooking and the sense of community she created. Her meals, along with Frank’s warm personality, made Shop and Go Market a truly welcoming place to shop.
By the 1990s, their passion for gardening began to take root. The little market slowly started offering trays of flowers, herbs, and vegetable plants, and soon the greenhouse became the heart of their business. What once was a grocery store had transformed into a small, thriving local greenhouse.
I first joined Frank and Maria in 2012. What began as a simple job soon became something much more meaningful. Frank took me under his wing, teaching me the value of patience, care, and traditional growing practices that put plant health first. I’ll never forget him humming around the greenhouse as he worked, or his favourite saying when things didn’t go perfectly: “Rome wasn’t built in one day.” Those lessons, in both gardening and life, left a lasting impression.
Even as a child, I was fascinated by greenhouses and would tell my mom that one day, I wanted to open my own. Working with Frank and Maria allowed that dream to grow into reality. After more than 30 years of dedication, they decided it was time to retire and asked me to continue what they had built, to keep the greenhouse alive for the next generation of gardeners.
When I took over, I wanted a name that honoured their legacy as well as my own family roots. That’s how Fiori Garden Centre came to be. Fiori means flowers in Italian, an ode to both our shared Italian heritage and my Nonna’s maiden name. It’s my way of paying tribute to Frank and Maria, to my family, and to the traditions that shaped who I am.
Today, Fiori Garden Centre carries forward the same spirit that began decades ago: community, care, and a genuine love of growing. We continue to use traditional greenhouse methods, especially for edibles, and even after 13 years, we’re still learning every day and adapting new techniques to bring the best products to our customers. We take pride in offering a deep variety of healthy, beautiful plants for every kind of gardener. What started as a small family grocer has bloomed into a local garden centre rooted in tradition, connection, and a shared love of plants
